Kingsport City Schools Announces TDOE School Letter Grades

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Kingsport City Schools (KCS) has announced its 2024-2025 School Letter Grades issued by the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE).

School Letter Grades provide a snapshot of school performance based on multiple indicators, including student achievement and academic growth for all schools, as well as college and career readiness for high schools.

"We are incredibly proud of the outstanding school-level grades that our schools earned on the Tennessee Department of Education School Grading system," said Dr. Chris Hampton, Kingsport City Schools Superintendent. "These results reflect the collective hard work, dedication, and perseverance of our students, the daily commitment and instructional excellence of our teachers and instructional assistance, the academic and social support of our counselors and interventionists, and the strong leadership and support provided by our administrators."

The following Kingsport City Schools earned a Grade A designation:
  • Adams Elementary School
  • Jefferson Elementary School
  • Johnson Elementary School
  • Lincoln Elementary School
  • Washington Elementary School
  • Dobyns-Bennett High School
The following schools earned a Grade B designation:
  • Kennedy Elementary School
  • Roosevelt Elementary School
  • Robinson Middle School
  • Sevier Middle School
"This recognition is a testament to a shared focus on high expectations, continuous improvement, and outstanding student success. We proudly celebrate this accomplishment and remain committed to build on this momentum to ensure every student continues to grow, achieve, and thrive," continued Hampton.

“The 2024-25 State Report Card celebrates the progress and achievements of public schools and districts across Tennessee, empowering families and communities with the knowledge to support every student’s success,” said Lizzette Reynolds, Commissioner of Education. “We are inspired by the dedication of schools that excelled in School Letter Grades and are making a meaningful difference for students. We invite all Tennesseans to join us in supporting, uplifting, and advancing the growth of every school in our state.”

In 2016, the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation requiring every school to receive a letter grade of A, B, C, D, or F annually to increase transparency and provide families and communities with clear information about school performance. This marks the second year of the state's updated School Letter Grades accountability system.

School Letter Grades are available via a public dashboard on the TDOE's website. Additional information and resources about letter grades are available at the TDOE's School Letter Grades webpage
