Counselors Corner

Welcome to the School Counseling Program website for Kennedy Elementary.  My name is Kim Oaks-Blair and it is a joy and privilege for me to serve Kennedy’s community as a School Counselor. I truly enjoy my position and the opportunity to work with students and families at Kennedy Elementary. To learn more about my experience and my role, please click on the link below to my fall parent letter.

In Counseling Connection classes we will cover various topic to address personal/social, academic, and career development.  These lessons will include information on personal safety (see link below), internet safety, bully prevention, zones of regulation, growth mindset, goal setting, character education, study skills, and college/career readiness. Our class lessons will follow both the State of Tennessee Model for Comprehensive School Counseling (our state standards for school counseling programs), as well as the standards presented in the ASCA (American School Counseling Association) National Model. More information on these requirements and recommendations can be found at https://www.tn.gov/assets/entities/education/attachments/comp_sch_counsel_model.pdf and https://www.schoolcounselor.org/school-counselors-members/asca-national-model, respectively.

I have attached detailed information about our Counseling Program at Kennedy in links for you to access below.  My hope is that it will give you a better understanding of the mission, vision, and goals of the program and a better understanding of my role as the School Counselor.
